Making Art Using the Drill Press

Sometimes making art is done by using everyday tools you find at Home Depot. Using this drill press has huge sentimental meaning to me. This is my Daddy’s drill press.

My father did wood working as a hobby. And by “hobby”, I mean he was as obsessed by wood and everything that could be made out of wood. That is how I feel about glass.

So when Daddy’s passed a few years ago, I was very touched to get his drill press. I have set it up in my cold working area and every time I use it, I think of Daddy smiling and saying “That’s my girl!” Actually, my Dad would be asking all sorts of questions and AMAZED that glass could be cut on the press. LOL

This press comes in handy for many of my pieces. I have used it to cut glass for many lamps, however, here recently I am using it more to add interest to my glass jewelry. It takes a lot of water to make sure I don’t break or chip the glass, but that makes working out in the hot garage in Florida much cooler.

A little water and lots of patience makes for the perfect glass pendant

Some of the pendants I made using this technique.
