The Beauty of Glass Flowers is that they never die
This fused glass stand art is a fun play of textures in glass. The blue “crackle” glass is created using a variety of glass “frit” which is just a fancy word for broken up glass. When fired, the glass pulls in organically to create the “crackle” in the glass. I then create the abstract bouquet of flowers. These are also all glass. I then re-fire the entire piece to tack fuse the bouquet flowers and stems onto the base. The final firing is to slump this piece into a graceful curve.
Each of the “flowers” are like snowflakes. No two of them will be the same. The layering of colors; the thickness of the glass; and, the temperature in the kiln all come into play while creating these pieces.
In addition, the crackle of the background is unique to itself. Due to the same reasons listed above. However, I can control the colors somewhat, the rest is up to the kiln’s mood that day.
The stone and glass stand is made from slate or travertine and cut to fit this particular piece of art. The base was specifically made to fit in a window sill so the light can shine through the crackle and add another dimension to this piece.
This piece is 4.5″ wide, 11″ tall and the base is 4" Wide and 2.75″ deep.
